Thailand is the second most-visited international destination for Indians. Bangkok is the gateway — most itineraries combine 3 nights in Bangkok with Pattaya or Phuket add-ons. IndiGo, Thai Airways, Air Asia and Air India operate direct services. Average booking lead time is 18 days — shortest of any major destination.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

DAY 1 Arrival + Sukhumvit Orientation Arrival
Arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK); Visa on Arrival queue — budget 45–90 minutes
BTS Skytrain or Airport Rail Link to Sukhumvit area hotel (most Indian travelers stay here)
Evening: Terminal 21 mall for dinner and orientation — shaped like a cruise ship with floor themes by city
Sukhumvit Soi 11 and Nana Plaza area for those wanting to explore the nightlife zone
Tip: Download the BTS Skytrain app before flying. It covers 90% of tourist areas and costs 25–65 THB per trip — far cheaper than taxis.
DAY 2 Grand Palace + Wat Pho + Chao Phraya Culture
Early morning: Grand Palace (open 8:30 AM — arrive before 9 AM to beat tour groups)
Wat Pho — Reclining Buddha; best temple massage in Bangkok within the compound (1 hour, THB 420)
Cross the river by ferry to Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) — photography is exceptional at sunrise
Afternoon: Chao Phraya river cruise back toward Saphan Taksin; hop-on hop-off tourist boat (THB 180/day)
Evening: Asiatique The Riverfront — outdoor market and Ferris wheel on the river
Dress code: Grand Palace requires covered shoulders and knees. Sarongs available at the entrance for THB 200 deposit (refundable). Avoid sleeveless tops.
DAY 3 Pattaya Day Trip Beach & Leisure
Depart Bangkok by 8 AM — minivan from Ekkamai or Mochit bus station (1.5–2 hrs, THB 120–150)
Coral Island (Koh Larn) snorkeling day trip — book at Pattaya pier (THB 300–400 including boat)
Nong Nooch Tropical Garden — stunning botanical gardens with elephant show (families love this)
Walking Street in the evening (optional — adults only) or Buddha Mountain viewpoint instead
Return to Bangkok by late evening
Family tip: Nong Nooch Garden and Coral Island make Pattaya fully family-friendly. The city's adult reputation overpowers what is genuinely a pleasant seaside resort town.
DAY 4 Markets + Street Food Tour Shopping & Food
Morning: Chatuchak Weekend Market (Sat/Sun only — 9 AM–6 PM; 15,000+ stalls)
Pratunam Market for wholesale clothing, bags, and shoes (open daily)
MBK Center — Bangkok's original electronics and bargain mall (open daily)
Evening: Yaowarat Road (Chinatown) street food tour — pad thai, mango sticky rice, grilled seafood
Or: Khao San Road backpacker area for budget street food and atmosphere
Vegetarian food: Thailand has a strong Buddhist vegetarian culture. Look for the yellow "Jay" flag at street stalls — this means strictly vegetarian. Chatuchak has excellent veg options.
DAY 5 Safari World + Cultural Show Family & Entertainment
Safari World and Marine Park — full day; open-air safari + marine park with dolphin and bird shows
Dream World (alternative for young children) — themed amusement park, less crowded than comparable parks
Muay Thai boxing match — Rajadamnern or Lumpinee stadium (evening; book ringside for experience)
Calypso Cabaret or Siam Niramit cultural show — traditional Thai dance in spectacular theatrical format
Indian families note: Safari World consistently ranks as the top family attraction for Indian tourists in Thailand — vegetarian meals available in the park.
DAY 6 Floating Market + Departure Shopping Culture & Departure
Morning: Damnoen Saduak Floating Market (1.5 hrs from Bangkok; book a tour from hotel)
Or Amphawa Floating Market (closer; less touristy; weekend evenings only)
Afternoon: Siam Paragon or CentralWorld for last-minute shopping (duty-free cosmetics, Thai silk)
Bangkok airport has excellent duty-free shopping — arrive early for departures
What to buy: Thai silk, Jim Thompson brand items, spa products, dried mango, Thai tea, and elephant figurines are the most popular Indian purchases. Avoid fake watches — airport customs are strict.
