Malaysia is a uniquely India-friendly destination — a 2.1 million strong Indian-Tamil community makes Kuala Lumpur feel familiar from day one. The Brickfields neighbourhood (Little India) is one of the best in Southeast Asia. eNTRI removes visa friction entirely, making Malaysia a natural first international destination for Indian first-time travelers.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
5 days · Excellent for families and first-time international travelers
Arrive at KLIA; KLIA Ekspres train to KL Sentral (28 minutes, MYR 55)
Afternoon: Suria KLCC mall at the base of Petronas Towers — anchor mall for shopping
Petronas Twin Towers Skybridge + Observation Deck — book timed entry online (sells out fast)
KLCC Park fountains — spectacular free light and water show nightly (8 PM)
Evening: Bukit Bintang area — Pavilion KL mall, Fahrenheit 88, dining strip
Tip: The Petronas Towers viewing at sunset (5:30–7 PM slot) gives the best photo — the towers are lit as the sky darkens. Book online a week ahead; tickets are MYR 80 per adult.
Early morning: Batu Caves — 272 steps to the Hindu temple cave (free entry); golden Lord Murugan statue is one of the tallest in the world
Visit the Dark Cave (guided tour, MYR 35) — bats, spiders, and rare cave ecosystems
Arrive before 9 AM to beat tour groups and the heat; monkeys are everywhere — keep bags closed
Afternoon: Brickfields (Little India) — Sri Mahamariamman Temple, sari shops, gold shops, Tamil sweet vendors
Lunch: Saravana Bhavan or Devi's Corner — arguably the best South Indian vegetarian food in KL
Thaipusam (Jan/Feb): Batu Caves is the main site for Thaipusam — India's biggest Hindu festival outside India. Spectacular if your travel dates align; book hotels months ahead for this period.
Depart KL by 9 AM; Genting Highlands is 1 hour by road (hire a car or join tour)
Cable car (Skyway) up to Genting — scenic mountain ascent through cloud forest
Resorts World Genting: Skytropolis indoor theme park + Twentieth Century Fox World (outdoor rides, weather-dependent)
Casino (for adults, Malaysian ID required; foreign visitors allowed); outdoor temperatures are 15–22°C — bring a light jacket
Return to KL by 7–8 PM for dinner
Family note: Skytropolis indoor theme park is suitable for all ages. The outdoor park has age/height limits. Indian families with young children typically do Skytropolis + Chin Swee Caves Temple for the full day.
Morning: KL Bird Park — world's largest free-flight aviary; 3,000+ birds across 200 species
Nearby: National Museum and Islamic Arts Museum (free entry; excellent architecture)
Sunway Lagoon (afternoon alternative for water park fans — 15 min from city)
Evening: Jalan Alor Night Market — KL's most famous street food lane; open 5 PM–4 AM; satay, char kway teow, BBQ stingray, fresh fruit
Changkat Bukit Bintang for late-night drinks and rooftop bars
Vegetarian at Jalan Alor: Most stalls serve non-vegetarian. The Malay nasi campur vendors at the north end of the lane have better vegetarian options; or eat beforehand in Brickfields and join for the atmosphere.
Option A (day trip): AirAsia operates KUL–PEN multiple times daily (45 min, ~MYR 100 return). Penang street art, Georgetown Heritage, Kek Lok Si Temple, char kway teow.
Option B (in KL): Mid Valley Megamall or The Gardens Mall for final shopping; Aquaria KLCC for families
KL Tower Sky Deck for goodbye city views (MYR 52 adult)
Departure from KLIA or KLIA2 (Air Asia and budget carriers use KLIA2 — allow 90 min transfer from KL Sentral)
KLIA vs KLIA2: These are different terminals 20 minutes apart by train. Malaysian Airlines and AirAsia use different terminals. Double-check which terminal your airline uses before heading to the airport.
